The importance of IRS Letter and Notices
Do not ignore any letters or notices from the IRS, especially if it was sent via Certified Mail. These letters and notices are requests from the IRS demanding a response from you. Treat these notices seriously. What looks like a simple notice could very well be the beginning of an informal audit. You will not be required to visit your local IRS office, but failure to promptly respond to an IRS notice can lead to an in-person audit at the local IRS offices.
